Fashionable Yachting

If boating follows similar trends to Fashion then
the J Craft Torpedo is the most fashionable boat
around. You may have noticed that 1950s style is forever creeping back into our most fashionable designer garments and we have seen plenty of famous designer collections from the fall 2010 to the summer 2011 echoing these trends.

Dior's 'NEW LOOK , 1947

In the times of Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn, Dior challenged the fashion world with the ‘New Look,' which brought Dior huge success.

As you will see below, designers such as Louis Vuitton and Channel and Salvatore Ferragamo are still inspired by the glory days of 1950s fashion and we are continuously seeing evidence of it on our runways.

With the recent wedding of Prince Albert II of Monaco, people are reminiscing back to the days when Grace Kelly took Monaco by Storm. Bringing with her the Hollywood Glamour of the 1950s 'The thing that made her stand out is what we call "style,"' McCall's magazine wrote of Grace Kelly in 1955.

Grace Kelly 1950's
Almost six decades on, the statement is as true now as it was then. Other legends of the era include Audrey Hepburn, Marlene Dietrich and Marilyn Monroe. Consequently the 50‘s also marks the years of ‘pleasure boating’  and looking at the style of this boat, J Craft is bringing us back, once again, to the days of glamour, elegance, beauty and style.

“The J Craft Torpedo perfectly captures the glamour style of the Riviera heydays. The classic styling and turn of pace are guaranteed to turn heads wherever the Torpedo appears and the boats are at home on the world’s most glamorous jetties. They are       as distinct as they are rare” (J Craft: http://www.j-craftboats.com)

If you imagined taking a cruise in a J Craft you may envision yourself sporting these similar 1950s styles previously discussed.   Salvatore Ferragamo captured this perfectly with Claudia Schiffer posing as Grace Kelly onboard a similar looking boat to the J Craft Torpedo.

This Shot by Mario Testino, was for the Salvatore Ferragamo campaign featuring the legendary Claudia Schiffer turned into the iconic Grace Kelly.
The J Craft Torpedo was officially launched at the 2009 Monaco Yacht Show, and True to its style J Craft welcomed Roger Moore as their Guest of Honour to Launch their new boat. This was followed a year later by the Torpedo R, offering higher specification and increased power. Both models have proven to be very popular, finding buyers in the Middle East and throughout the Mediterranean. In February J Craft Ventured to the USA where it was a big hit there also. With this style of boat appealing to so many different nationalities it is only destined for continued success.

As Sir Roger Moore said, I can certainly see James Bond arriving in a boat like this at an exclusive party somewhere on the Riviera and I think any of my seven Bond Girls would have loved it too! “

The J Craft name has continued to grow and is becoming more and more popular.

In May this year J Craft recently partnered with Rolls-Royce Motor Cars at the Concorso d’Eleganza, Villa d’Este to offer an incredible VIP experience.

One of the boats has recently appeared in a music video ‘Im alright’ featuring Kat Deluna and Flo Rida. The Torpedo boat ‘Smeralda’ looks ultra chic cruising through the waters near Cannes, where the shoot took place.  You can see the video on Jean Roch’s official

The J Craft Torpedo truly is a work of Art, however with over 4,000 man-hours of extensive labour going into each boat you would expect only the best. According to the J Craft they do not accept anything less than perfect.
“At J Craft, it’s all about the detail. The touch of the leather, the weight of the switch or the action of the hinge. Simple things, imperceptible to most, but that subliminally add to the pleasure of owning a Torpedo”
